Docklands Equestrian Centre is a BHS & ABRS approved riding centre and offers riding lessons and training all the year round. We have both an indoor arena (20 x 60m) and outdoor menage (20 x 40m) with an all weather surface. We cater for all levels of rider including Riding for the Disabled (RDA).

We have 22 horses and ponies and offer private, shared-private (maximum 3 persons) and group lessons to suit riders of all abilities from very experienced competitive riders to absolute beginners.

We hold regular horse competitions and clinics and run a variety of children’s activities during term time and the school holidays.

We also offer a points based volunteers program to our riders 12yrs and over who want to gain experience in stable management. Volunteers points can earn them free lessons.

Our horses are stabled in an open plan American style barn with 22 loose boxes, a farriers box, tack room, wash room, tea room, and toilet.

Pony Rides

Pony Rides are a perfect way to introduce three year olds to horse riding in a secure and friendly setting. Laps on one of our smallest ponies gets each child used to being in the saddle and holding the reins which stands our tiniest jockeys in good stead for developing their riding skills once they have reached their 5th birthday and can start having “proper” lessons.

Saturdays and Sundays 1:00pm - 2:30pm

£1.50 per lap - or 4 laps for £5.00 per rider.

Tickets go on sale at 1.00 pm when the riding lesson taking place in the arena has finished.

In the interests of Health and Safety please do not approach the building before that time as the activity is liable to spook the horse and rider on the lesson.

Please remain behind the barriers until this time.

Riders can start from 3 years but must also be at least 36 inches tall.

People of all ages are welcome but we do have a very strict 75KG weight limit.

Please ensure the rider is wearing FULL LENGTH BOTTOMS. No skirts, shorts or skorts.

Young riders aged below 10 or less than 55” tall will also need somebody to walk alongside them. For this we would ask that a member of the same household be available to be a side-walker giving that support.  For young children under 5 the Supporter must stay in physical contact with the rider.

The last ticket is sold at 2.30 pm promptly.

After this time you will not be able to buy your tickets so please ensure you allow enough time to get here - taking into account possible travel delays.

Bookings and Payments

Bookings are made by telephone. Payments are made in cash or card upon arrival at each lesson.

Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your lesson to allow time for putting on hats & boots and, for the more confident and experienced riders, collecting your pony/horse from the stable block.

Own-a-Pony Days
