Apprenticeship

Trainee Groom & Riding Instructor

Are you at college or in need of a job/career and looking for an opportunity?

Newham Riding School are looking for a Full Time paid Apprentice Groom (40 hours per week including 1 day at the weekend) to join our crew.

You will work a 40 hour paid week at the Government Apprentice rate which is currently £4.81 per hour and due to increase in April. In addition to this we would pay for all your outside training, BHS Membership and BHS Exams. The holiday entitlement is 4 weeks per annum - or pro-rata for your length of employment. Plus paid Bank Holidays.

You will receive training "in-house" from the senior members of the staff in both riding, horse care and stable management. You will also receive instruction and training at least once a week from a BHS recommended Instructor with a view to obtaining your BHS Qualifications, going through the stages annually (BHS - British Horse Society - Stages 1,2 & 3). In addition, you will receive assessment and instruction from KEITS with a view to also obtaining your B-Tech at all levels.

In addition to this you will be working with our R.D.A. Group (which is Riding for the Disabled). This is both very rewarding and is an excellent addition to any CV.

You may be asked to occasionally work on a Bank Holiday as we have to be here 365 days a year to care for the horses. However, you would get the time back in lieu. The early shifts start at 7.30am and the latest shift ends at 7.30pm.
Initially you would work a regular shift of 9am – 6.00pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, then either Friday and Saturday or Sunday and Monday. Then the shift would be 7.30am - 4.30pm or 8.00am – 4.00pm.

Experience with horses is preferred. However, if you have little or no experience and feel like this is something that you would love to do but you’re still a little unsure, you could always come down to our trial days that we will be running over the weekends and possibly during the half term.

If you are interested, send us an email with your CV at riding.school@@aol.com or call us on 0207 473 4951. We look forward to hearing from you.
